OUR BUSINESS IS OUR DREAM AND PASSION......

THE MT. DORA MUSEUM OF SPEED & CLASSIC CAR DEALERSHIP.......

We built the all new Art Deco Mount Dora Museum of Speed , so we could share our hobby and a lifetime of antique collecting with the General Public... moving to Central FL. and opening for business in Mt. Dora mid-August 2001. Since we travel often to buy cars PLEASE, it's always best to call in advance to clear your arrival. If you've never been to Mount Dora, get out your Future Events Calendar....the town is a must see. A mandatory visit while near Orlando, it's the home base for the Renniger's "Antique Extravaganza Show(s)", "Wooden Boat Show in Tavares" on Lake Dora, Ice House Theater, "Bicycle Rally", "Christmas Parade & Walk", "Plant Show", "Art Festival", "Spring Festival of Music" various Antique Car Shows, and "Crafts Fair"....it's listed Nationally in several magazine's as "One of The Five Best Places to Retire." The year long Special Events calendar garnishes a major turnout (alegedly a quarter million visitors per year), so Dora's not your typical 'small potato' Central Florida town. Flower-laden Mount Dora is just 43 minutes N.W. of Orlando Airport. Many view it as the East Coast's version of Carmel, California or a sleepy New England Village. It not only offers the highest elevation in the State of Florida (184 ft. above sea level, whoa) but, visiting it is like taking a trip in a time machine back to 1950. A vintage community loaded with over 50 Antique Shops / fine dining, Lake Canal Cruises, Century old Architecture, Beautiful Inns / Bed & Breakfasts', 26 Churches and some genuinely nice people....all this while residing in a picture perfect community. It's surrounded by 1001 Fresh Water Lakes and large Oak trees, laden with Spanish moss and cooler temperatures than So. Florida's normal.

It was a romantic 'getaway' from the rigors of Palm Beach County, for my wife and I, for six years prior to moving here. We decided it was the perfect place to 'semi-retire' and open a Car Museum , after an article appeared in Money magazine rating it as One of the Top Five Places To Retire. It occurred to us that there was plenty of entertainment in town for the ladies but, nothing for the guys to do, except eat/drink....so, with it's close proximity to the Orlando Airport, it was the perfect venue for a Car Museum. We designed the building in the 1940's style of Art Deco and decided to share our lifetime collection with everyone who chose to come in ( only open by appointment when we were located in Jupiter, FL). The Museum is located on the corridor to the Historical District ( 206 North Highland Street ), designed as basically a Hurricane Proof 7,000+ sq. ft. building with cantered 26 foot ceilings, designed to hang all our  antiques.

'WHEN MEN WERE MEN - WITH NO CAGES"

THE STORY BEHIND THE FULL MIDGET RACE CAR

DISPLAYED IN OUR LOBBY, FOR ALL TO ENJOY,  IS A FLOYD TREVIS FULL MIDGET RACER. FLOYD TREVIS-KRAFT WAS BEST KNOWN FOR BUILDING "OFFY" ROADSTERS FOR THE F.I.A. CHAMPIONSHIPS AND USAC EVENTS FROM 1951-1961. HIS BUSINESS WAS BASED IN YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO. THESE MIDGETS FOUND THEMSELVES LOCATED ALL OVER THESE GREAT UNITED STATES IN RACE PROGRAMS. FLOYD TREVIS WAS WELL KNOWN AS "THE CADILLAC OF RACE CAR BUILDERS" OWING TO HIS 'QUALITY BUILD' WITH HIS 'EXTRA TOUCH'. HE IS A MEMBER OF THE SPRINT CAR HALL OF FAME (1990). JUST A FEW  OF HIS MOST FAMOUS WINNING RACE CARS WERE A.J. FOYT IN THE "BOWLES SEAL-FAST SPECIAL" (INDY 1961),  DICK RATHMAN ACHIEVING THE POLE POSITION AT INDY 1958 IN A TREVIS BUILT CAR AND EDDIE JOHNSON WINNING 6TH PLACE IN ONE AT INDY 1960. THIS PARTICULAR CAR IS ONE OF FOUR BUILT. IT PASSED TO CALIFORNIA WHERE IT COMPETED IN SEVERAL EVENTS SPONSORED BY ED WAGNER. IT WAS NAMED #64 "THE SODA CAN SPECIAL", AFTER ITS ASSOCIATION WITH 'SODA CANYON NAPA VALLEY RACING'. SINCE THESE OLD GIRLS COULD BE SPONSORED BY HUNDRED'S OF SPONSORS DURING THEIR LIFE, WE DEDICATED OUR CAR WITH TRIBUTE SPONSORSHIP FROM A PERIOD CORRECT SODA BEVERAGE FIRM "WHITE ROCK BEVERAGES" (ONE OF AMERICA'S VERY FIRST BEVERAGE DISTRIBUTORS POPULAR IN THE 1930'S, '40-S AND '50'S). THIS FLOYD TREVIS-KRAFT MIDGET CARRIES A 120 CUBIC INCH / 183 HP FORD 60-V8 WITH EDDIE MEYER HOLLYWOOD HEADS, EDDIE MEYER INTAKE, DUAL STROMBERGS W/ CUSTOM HEADERS, IN/OUT TRANSMISSION, ALUMINUM 'LIGHTWEIGHT' REAR-END, LEATHERETTE INTERIOR, PERIOD CORRECT SAFETY BELTS, CHROME ROLLBAR, ORIGINAL MIDGET DRIVERS HELMET, FIRESTONE RACING TIRES ON DREYER RACING CAST ALUMINUM WHEELS. 1962 GEBR-IHLE AMUSEMENT BUMPER CAR

Who can forget as a child, teenager or Adult your first ride in a Bumper car? They have all but totally vanished as vendors fear the lawsuits. You've heard of Dodgem and Lusse Brothers Bumper Cars (see one in our Museum) but, the rarest electric Bumper Car to be found in America is this German beauty by Gebr-Ihle used at "Kiddie-Land" in the Southeast corner of Melrose Amusement Park's "Scooter" Exhibition, (near Chicago) Illinois from 1962 until the Park closed in 2009 (demolished in June 2010). A Costco Store now occupies the space. It is a dead-on replica of the now famous 1962 Corvette Roadster which went on to fame in the CBS TV Show "Route 66" with Martin Milner & George Maharis (10/7/60 - 3/21/64) and in collectible garages all across America. The 1962 Corvette is considered iconic "The Marilyn Monroe of ALL Cars" (Paul Neidermeyer - 'Curbside Corvettes'). Yes, for those constantly asking; we have one Green Bumper Car for sale.

OUR "DUCK DYNASTY" DISPLAY

We have received such a great response to our "Pawn Stars" display we decided to add our favorite cable TV Show to our Museum Floor. As shown, (with constant upgrades) is 'Uncle Si', 'Jase' and 'Phil Robertson' with their actual Duck Dynasty headwear. They are here with us, standing next to our Patina Rat Rod. Complete with the squirrel (they missed shooting), duck decoys, 2 real Mallard taxidermy, the A&E Corporate 'Dynasty' Display Box, Official Duck Commander Tea Glass, photo's and even "Si's autographed, agua green Tea Glass. Don't worry about the 'cowpile' rattlesnake ...the Rat Rod's about to run it over. If you haven't seen "Duck Dynasty" on A&E- you're missing a real hoot. Nice to see family values and 'church going ways' back on the Boob Tube. This Rat Rod was replaced by a mint 51 Chevy 3100 Pickup.

"TRIP TO MOUNT DORA – by Ken McNally

The Citrus MOPARS joined the Wanderers Car Club on Saturday March 3rd for a cruise to the Mount Dora

Museum of Speed. Mike DeFrancisco did a fine job setting up the event, and making all of the arrangements.

There were 11 cars in the caravan to Mt Dora with about 25 people attending.

There were about 20 cars on display, but they were all 'unique' in some way. There was a lot of Antique

Memorabilia all over the museum, and our guide and owner, Kerry Bogard, had a story to tell about each item

and each car. The Museum was quite fascinating.

After the museum tour, most of us went to the Frog and Monkey Restaurant in Mt Dora, as recommended by

the museum owners, and we enjoyed a good lunch. In my opinion, we need to do more of these events with

the other local car clubs, as this was a lot of fun for all. We all had a great time".

Great bunch of folks! Thanks for coming to see us.

Leisure Time Corvette Club

"Dear Kerry & Cindy,

On behalf of all the members of Leisure Time Corvette Club in the Villages, Florida I would like to thank you both for opening the museum on Memorial weekend for our group to come through on a tour.  Everyone commented on what a great museum you have and how much they enjoyed listening to your knowledgeable talk about all the items you have on display.

Cindy, we appreciate you taking time on your birthday to accommodate our members.  We do hope that your birthday was memorable after our departure and we wish you many more happy and healthy returns!

Kerry, I am sending 2 posters to you that you may or may not want to display in the museum.  The larger of the 2 is a rendering of the original Z06 Corvette and the smaller poster is from our home state, Michigan with the rendering of the 2001 Woodward Dream Cruise.  If you have never been to that exclusive gathering you should put it on your list of "things to see and do"!  It began with a few cars driving the 7 mile stretch of Woodward Avenue in Detroit, Michigan one weekend and the event now spans approximately one week, 5 lanes wide of muscle cars driving the 7 mile stretch.  It is quite a sight to see!

In closing, I would like to thank you  for taking our club picture and displaying it on your website.  We clean up pretty good!  Warm regards,

Ginny Lessard, Cofounder & Secretary

Leisure Time Corvette Club

The Villages, Florida "

We would have to say, this was the nicest bunch of folks we have ever had the pleasure to meet. We did a 2 hour tour and had a wonderful time. Thanks again to the residents of The Villages for making the drive. Please come back.
